Saying “I Do!” in Bali



Congratulations! As you say yes in delight as you officially get engaged, the prospect of celebrating your happy day in Bali seems like a wonderful idea. First, whether you want to say your vows with a backdrop of Uluwatu’s legendary sunset or amidst lush forest and rice fields in Ubud, the choice is endless.


To ensure you have a smooth and worry-free wedding, these are some pointers on what you should know before the official “I do”.


•⁠ ⁠Both bride and groom should have CNI (Certificate of No Impediment to

Marriage) by your consulate representative in Indonesia. You must personally

visit your country’s respective consulate and bring necessary documents. This

certificate is to be stated that there is no objection for you to get married in

Indonesia. Make sure your country’s consulate is in Bali, or otherwise you

should fly to Jakarta to visit one. Or else you can obtain one from your home

country.

•⁠ ⁠After submitting CNI to the Civil Registry Office with all the necessary documents.

To be legally married in Bali you should have two ceremonies, both religious and

civil. Take note that there are only religions are recognized by the government:

Hindu, Islam, Christian Protestant, Christian Catholic, Buddhist, Confucianism.

After the ceremony it will be legalized district Civil Officer. Indonesia Law only

recognizes the official faiths to legally marry here.

•⁠ ⁠The last step is to register your marriage with the Civil Registry Office in

Indonesia, and don’t forget to also register your marriage in your home country.

Besides the legal matters, there are some things that you should consider that is

important as well.

•⁠ ⁠As stated above, not only Indonesia only recognizes 6 official religions, it’s also

necessary that both of you have the same religion to be legally married here. But

don’t be discourage, you can have your civil ceremony in your home country and

the wedding celebration in Bali.

•⁠ ⁠Same-sex marriage isn’t legal in Bali. And even if you consider a celebration of

your union in Bali, it’s advisable to seek advice from legal representatives or

LGBTQ+ groups who is more experienced in this matter.

•⁠ ⁠Find a respectable and knowledgeable wedding organizer to ensure your

wedding go smoothly in all aspects and details.
